Input and Output Devices
Input and output devices are two key components of a computer. These devices perform different functions. Working on a computer without both is difficult.
What is an Input Device? An input device is a hardware device used to send data or commands into a computer. Input devices include a scanner, keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc. For example, we enter data into the computer using the keyboard, and we use the mouse to command the computer to perform certain tasks.
What is an Output Device? An output device is a key physical part of a computer. It is a hardware component. Output devices are used to send data out of the computer. Output devices include monitors, printers, earphones, projectors, speakers, etc. For example, if we need data in written form, we use a printer to output the data onto paper.
Types of Output Devices and Their Functions
1- Monitor
A monitor is an example of an output device. It is also known as the visual display unit. It is the most important part of a computer and resembles a TV. We use monitors to view videos, photos, documents, and more. There are two types of output monitors: a CRT monitor and an LCD monitor.
2- Printer
As an output device, this device is used to print computer information. With this device, we can print any document from the computer, which we then receive as a hard copy.
3- Plotter
A plotter output device is also a key component of a computer. This device resembles a printing machine, allowing us to easily print graphs, drawings, and charts. Posters are also created and printed using a plotter machine.
4- Speaker
This speaker device is also part of a computer. It plays the sound of any song or video played on the computer through the speaker.
5- Projector
We use a projector to view small computer scripts on a large screen. To use it, we need to connect it to our computer, after which whatever is played on the computer is displayed on the projector screen.
6-Headphone
Friends, headphones are also a computer output device. When connected to the computer, we can hear sound through them.
Types of Input Devices and Their Functions
1- Keyboard
The keyboard is a key input device for computers. It is used to give instructions to the computer. It is a device that allows us to enter text, numbers, and symbols.
2- Trackball
This trackball is known as a painting device. When we scroll it on a stationary device, it acts like a ball. We use it to play video games on the computer.
3- Lightpen
A lightpen is an electro-pointing device. We use this electro-pointing device to select drawing graphics.
4- Barcode Reader
This device is used to input data from barcodes. This barcode reader is most commonly used in shops and malls.
5- Graphics Tablet
With a graphics tablet, users can easily design images and graphics using their hands.
6- Biometric Sensor
This device is used to take attendance of employees and students in institutions for security purposes.
7- Scanner
A scanner is also an essential device used to access document information using a computer.
8- Webcam
A webcam is a device known as a digital camera in a computer. We use it when video conferencing or chatting online.
